Pasta E Pizza @ Fratini

Fratini's Restaurant
is an authentic Italian restaurant located around Boulevard Commercial Centre in Miri. The place is partly owned by a chinese guy ( please do correct me ) whose daughter occasionally visits my blog. This restaurant has been operating for quite some time and the last time i was here was during my bro's birthday.

We dropped by early to check out the items on promotion and there were 50% off for all pasta & pizzas. We made the reservation for 5 during noon. Fratini has outdoor seating arrangement for patrons who would like to have a smoke.

There's even a standalone menu just in front of the entrance promoting it's various dish. I didn't had the time to look through as was in a rush for my football training.

We arrived around 9.00PM as stated in the reservation book. The interior of Fratini is nicely done with alot of woodbase furniture in it. The lights are subdued in a cozy manner. Funny i didn't saw any Italian flags around..

..or probably momentos of the current World Cup Champion. Italia. There weren't many patrons around as i guess most of them are still in Kuching witnessing the grand parade. My guess.

The red-coloured sofa mounted against the wall does a great job in restricting any kind of movements during dining. Lol. We got ourselve one of it in the middle.

From the small enclosure, we have a really good view of the patron's there. I noticed one of my football friend with his mates having a cup of tea.

Preserved chilli's and oranges shoved inside a bottle adds to the decor.

The condiments are placed neatly and the mood around Fratini is good.

The Fratini Pasta & Pizza Menu. We ordered a different main each so we can try the various meal on promo.

The list of pasta's & pizzas which were on discount that day. I should had just went through this instead of browsing through the main menu.

The person in charge of our table was friendly and she's a Malay. Hmm.... suites Patrick Wu though. I didnt got her name though.

The meal started with the Pizza Hawaiana which my mum ordered. It is described as "pizza baked with tomato sauce , grated cheese , diced pineapple and chicken pastrimi" . It's authentic pizza this, the thin layered bread and much more aromatic herbs and spices used are the main difference between Italian and American pizzas.

I orderd a la carte . I got myself a plate of Linguine Ai Frutti Di Mare which is a plate of flat pasta served with assorted mix seafood, garlic, chili ( hmm.. somehow it tasted more like tomato to me ), fresh herb and oh ya... tomato sauce. ;P

I really enjoy looking at the mussels , what more to say devour it . Tsk tsk..

My bro helped himself with a plate of Fettucine Carbonara. I liked the name of it. Carbonara comes with a plate of italian noodles tossed in creamy ( ;p ) sauce, parmesan cheese, egg yolk and a choice of beef rashes or chicken meat. My bro preferred the much more tasty beef rashes.

The herbs and spices were strong on this meal. I had a nib and i can say it's rich and creamy, with a lingering aftertaste. Not those pungent type... like what most sick ppl think ya. ( yes, i am talking about PWIII - Prince Wanker III ).

Next Benjamin got himself a Del Macelliao which contains "tomato sauce, grated cheese, beef rashes, pepperoni, chicken sausage ( i never knew chicken got sausages too. ) , beef salami , chicken pastrami and also a generous amount of minced beef. It tasted quite similar to the Pizza Hawaiana.

Behold!! The best pizza of the day goes to the Ai Frutti Di Mare. It is basically a pizza filled with all kinds of seafood . Green mussels, squid, baby clams and prawn tails just to name a few. I enjoyed this pizza the most out of the 3.

Fratini's
pizza & pasta comes highly recommended from me and my family. The ambience is nice, cozy and the service is superb. I give the cheers for authentic Italian food.

Project MMISCB - Day 4 - 04 - 09 - 2006

Project MMISCB - Day 4

Restaurant Azizur Rehman Sdn. Bhd is a small cafe owned by a tall pakistani guy who could beat Yao Ming in any slam dunk contest should there be one. Restaurant Azizur sells malay and pakistani food. It's located just opposite of my workplace and during times when i am lonely with nobody to eat with, i will come to this particular place.

The seating arrangements lined up the whole walkway of the shoplots. There weren't any customers around during that time.

Restaurant Azizur
is quite famous for recruiting "new" staffs every month. Any fresh graduates looking for a quick cash - easy job should send their resume to me and i'll do the honours of handling it to the boss.

I got a plate of Roti Canai for RM0.90 . It's not as cheap as the one in KL but it sure beat a few in the price range here.

The texture of the Roti Canai is nice, it's evenly oiled and it's filling.

I went to Yakin Food Centre during lunch for their economical food with my cousin and another friend Ah Lung. Here's the free food i had , i chosed some bean sprouts , some spicy vege and few pieces of soft tender ... ah~... tofu's to fill my stomach.

Appetizing... a nice combination of tofus and spicy vege.

Thanks to Ah Lung whom i normally refer him as Kolap who paid for my food. He has been doing this all these while and somehow i got use to it. Free food... who doesn't want it right?

Remaining Project MMISCB fund: RM 223.50

Other expenditures:

Paid RM10.00 to Patrick
Paid RM 8.00 for Patrick and Ben's drink
Paid RM50.00 for the Motorcyclist's hospital fee.... crap.

Drinking a bottle of water

There was a bottle of BORNEO drinking water an arms length from my desk. I look at it, stretch out my hands and took the bottle. I turned the bottle cap in a clockwise manner. I proceed to tilt the bottle down to my mouth letting the water flow down my throat. I close the bottle cap after i finish drinking.

Fratini's 50% Off on Merdeka Day

I was browsing through the pics and i felt i had left out something. Gosh!!!! It's Merdeka day and i had been busy till i didn't had the time to post an article of my time in Fratini out. Sigh..

Fratini's Restaurant were having a promotion on the 31st of August. The click was that all ( and only ) pasta & pizzas have a whopping 50% discount. I was there and articles will be posted up tommorow. I am lazy now.

Project MMISCB - Day 3 - 03 - 09 - 2006

Project MMISCB - Day 3

I went to Luak Espanade right after the morning occured accident. Alot had happened during the week from finding out my friends house was burglared in and the burglars poisoned my friends dog ( gender not disclosed ) , being summoned by few traffic policemen and to the latest accident.

There were many people around during the evening. I parked somewhere safe by the road side. Very contradicting.

The " tow car wannabe posers " with their infamous pouch.

This is DION technology's manager, i aint sure whether i got the name of his company right. His name is Aaron and he treated me with a cup of chilled " Air Tebu "@ Sugarcane after learning that i am on my project RM250 per month. Thanks dude. * He drives a wicked red eg9.

It cost about RM1.00 per cup and it is serve inside...a cup which has the drawing of a dolphin sunbathing under the ...sun. Very artistic.

A closer look of the sugarcane. Fresh and refreshing. Ideal for those on the run. Just like me.

" Sun Proof Your Body " . Funny they didnt have " Rain Proof Your Body " as well. This drawings are just unnecessary at all to be frank.

Right after i left Esplanade, i brought my mum and my bro out for dinner. My dad is still in Singapore and my mum wasn't in the mood to cook during weekends. Actually she was busy watching Cyndi Wang's taiwanese drama till she forgot to cook. Oh yeah, this is Jing Wood Cafe. Formelly known as King Wood Cafe.

This particular cafe is busy all over the week. What more to say during weekends. It is extremely famous amongst us all for it's delicious and affordable pricing of western food. I know the boss and the chefs well at this place. We frequently hit each other out with jokes that are not funny, but rude.

My mum treated me with a plate of Lamb Chop. It's at a delicious price of RM9.00 , which had seen an RM1.00 increase over the past 2 months.

I turn on the flash and wola, their famous lamb chop consist of 4 pieces of lamb chops and a generous amount of onions specially layered just for me. It's good to know more guys ya know, but not too many. The meat is good, perfect. Yummy.

The Accident that broke my heart..

A day of what should have been filled with fun, joy, happiness has ended for me. I was invited to my colleagues wedding on 03 - 09 -2006 ( Sunday ). My colleague ZUL will be a dad husband to someone soon.

I was given instructions or the whereabouts of his wife's wedding ceremony. I didn't get to attend their happy ceremony...,the day they were joined together in one.. ;P . What? Its true.

* It hurts..

On the way to my office , ( Krokop 10 ), as i was intending to turn into my friend's shop to get something , a motorcyclist appeared out of nowhere and went crashing straight onto my car. The doors of both the driver side and passenger side were dented and scratched to an extent which no words in wikipedia could describe. The guy.... loss control of his motorcyle and went face first onto the ground leaning beside my car screaming in agony. I thought the guy had killed himself kamikaze style.

* Part & Parcel? This is not i was asking for..

The scars and scratches are part & parcel of a car's life. It hurts me knowing that my long time friend who is ever willing to send me anywhere i want, letting me to do all-sorts of modifications without her approval and lastly letting me fetch my girl out without even showing a hint of understanding for her had been hit by some large chunk of meat. I guess she certainly had felt intruded.....

*Breaking up with my ( real ) ex girlfriend seems much easier to take in than this.

The stains which were left behind..... i am feeling angry and sad the moment i am typing this down. This stain was of the tyres from that motorcycle as the driver felled and leaned on my car. The moment he hit my car, i was like " wtf..... " , the moment i opened my door and noticed a familiar face, i was like " f**king sh*t !!! " , the moment the guy turn and face me with a pale-ghost like face, my worries towards my car were transfered to a state of shock. I thought the man was gonna die of ........ high blood pressure or heart attack because he just looked fine to me.

*The dent cause by the motorcyclist's forehead

Its hard to describe the feeling when you're are involved in an accident which a person's life is involved. He stood up ( with the help of my friends ) stoned, breathing heavily and there was perspiration everywhere.

I yelled " Get in the car, i am sending you to the hospital !!! NOW!! " . Funny thing was, he replied me in a gasping manner ... " I haven't eat yet , i am hungry..... *gasp*... "

Man, i tell you we were all confused and yeah, confused is the most appropriate word to use. I contemplated on asking him where he wanna have his breakfast before sending him to the hospital but my instinct told me to drove on to the hospital instead. Coming to think about it, it was hillarious. We laugh out hearts out once he was pronounce.... in a stable condition.

He was clearly feeling the pain on his shoulders as he grab hold of his left shoulder, murmuring vague phrases like " i ...can't feel.....my.....shoulders.... " , " Pain........ " and all those miscellanious who-knows-what.

* The 5 nut-wheels were scratched too!

We arrived at the hospital and he was asked to wait for his turn to see the doctor. As his injuries were not that serious and i reitrate that apart from having few minor scratches on his arms, there's no hint of any serious injuries. The only thing which i was worried about was if he suddenly die in front of me due to excessive shock or heart attack.

We waited for prolly around 30 minutes before he was told to have a check up. While waiting, he was constantly telling me about how "lucky" he was to meet me and that i am a good guy. I know i am.

He proceed by telling me about how good my dad is. We all know that too and i was beginning to feel abit annoyed by it.

He even had the sheer audacity to request me to pay for his hospital x-ray bills which cost RM50.00 and he even take things further by asking me to send him to SESCO for some massage session, and not only that, he even told me to pay him another RM50.00 for his bike's repair. Now how considerate can that guy be?

Sometimes, its hard to deal with people whom you know off in such situation.

I led him aside and made it clear to him that it was his fault in the first place and i am obliged not to pay him anything let alone sending him all the way to the hospital.

He ( the motorcyclist just in case you forgot ) , continued that if i let him have the RM50.00 , he will in turn pray for me. That's the most ridiculous bullcrap i ever come across.

I can't continue on.... i am speechless.

* Note: I am glad he didnt die, else my license will be revoke. I can't imagine me being fetch around by people for the rest of my life.

Project MMISCB - Day 2 - 02 - 09 - 2006

Project MMISCB Day 2

Day 2 of Project MMISCB went off to a great start. I went to Yakin Food Court for my lunch right after stopping by at my cousin's cybercafe. It was fully packed by 12.00PM and i invited my friends along for lunch. Hoping that they might contribute some for my project. I got a plate of economical rice for only RM3.00 and it consist of fried bean sprouts, omelletes and also few pieces of deep fried mushrooms.

Here's the deep fried mushroom. It was great, crispy and crunchy. It does have few hints of curry powder on it giving it that kinda spicy taste. Something new indeed.

I got this cup of chilled plain water for FREE. it costs RM0.30 and my friend Patrick decided to be in the project. Thanks. Cannot believe water price also increase.

I went back to my cousins cybercafe and had few chats with his friends about car modifcations till i felt hungry and straightaway we went to the old market for some food. I stumbled upon my once favourite fried kueh tiaw stall. It is called " Lau Fu Zhi " and i am sure many of you are familiar with the chinese comic about 3 guys making a joke out of themselves though chinese idioms. They are famous( for the wrong reasons ).

" Lau Fu Zhi " is in the middle of the old market. It doesn't look very hygenic though. There were rats crawling around feasting on our leftovers. How can like that......... very gelik ler.

What amazes me was, despite the unsavory eating premises, many people still are happily dining in. I can say that their food surely taste a hell lot better than the ones in town else no one will wanna be here.

The cook preparing our orders as Benjamin was distracted by the sheer size of a rat passing by.

I got myself a plate of fried mee hoon with an egg topping and another glass of kopi-o-peng. It costs me RM4.50 in total.

I love poking on the egg yolks. Those flowing fluids looks so inviting.

Look at the naughty grin on both these posers. " Lau Fu Zhi " stall certainly produce good meals.

Choki Choki chocolate paste review

Choki Choki
chocolate paste was the IN thing back when i was in primary school. Those were the days where we kids would rushed out to the nearest tuck shop opposite our school to get our hands on this valuable collectibles. During that time, we would probably purchase 2 tubes each day as we obviously could not afford to buy in bulk like how i can today.

The nutritional information on the back of the packet of Choki Choki chocolate paste. I never knew that such titbits are good for health too.

Choki Choki
retails for RM1.00 and it comes in 5 brown phallic tubes. The arms-wide-open mouse had been the signature design of Choki Choki since my friends like Yun Yun , Joel , Wan Ling ( my personal watch repair-er ) are still in their mum's womb. Ok, i might had gone too far but then it's been sometime.

Snip off the tip of the tube , that's how i do it. You can show your creative side by biting the tip off , chop it off, saw it off with a STANLEY mechanical saw... its up to you.

Proceed by squeezing the substance out of the tube... stuffs come out and follow through by squirting it into your mouth.

RM 1 nasi lemak @ Kenn Trading

Day - 1 ( One ) Project MMISCB

Everyone, this is the RM1.00 nasi lemak which i had been bragging about since the rushing down to office incident. For only RM1.00 , its prolly the best one can get nowadays.

This particular nasi lemak is only available at Kenn's Trading somewhere around Jln Datuk Muip, Piasau. I heard that Kenn Trading had won big lottery lately but let's not go there shall we? This nasi lemak is wrapped by a transparent plastic paper ( ? ).

It has dried salty fish.... which tasted sweet. No, seriously, it's salty.

It even contains a slice of ginger which permits a great aromatic ginger-ish flavour to the rice once mix together. The cucumber is another usual sight when having our own malaysian nasi lemak.

Alongside the delicious spicy sambals which are mix together with ikan bilis , theres even a piece of chicken wing. RM1.00 also got chicken wing...can you believe it? It's a steal this.

Since my Project MMISCB is on, and preventing myself from getting starved later, i even ate the ginger. It's the will and determination which drives you sometimes to do things which you normally don't.

Project MMISCB remaining funds: RM250 . ( I got the RM1.00 from my friend which doesn't count )

Project MMISCB

With this, i am annoucing that i'll set aside RM250 for my expenses throughout the month:

It includes:

Food & Drinks
Nights Out
Cell Phone Usage

3 Major items which had been contributing to my excess spending for the past few years. I really do think i need to curb my spending spree. Gone are the days where i happily throw my greens from side to side. ( Actually i don't, i just can't seem to find the reason why my cash are missing so fast ). Meaning i have to be frugal from now on.

Reason: To prove to my nagging mum that i am able to go through the whole month with RM250 only, To prove to myself that i am able to resist to any temptations that might come my way.

Project MMISCB = Minimum Monthly Income Self-Controlled Budget

starts 01 - 09 - 2006!
